Far Westfield Farm Autumn Update

Posted on Nov 17, 2017

The farm has enjoyed a very busy spring and summer. With the addition of our new purpose built foaling unit we have enjoyed a busy stud season with almost 40 mares foaled on the farm. Many of them have stayed on as full-time boarders and it has allowed us to broaden our horizons as a stud and successful facility for foaling/ walk outs, with clients as local as from here in Warwickshire and as far flung as Spain and USA! Under the watchful and experienced guidance of Bill Lloyd, who is now our resident stud manager, it has been a fun and interesting transition for the farm which we hope to continue and nurture in the future. This Spring has also seen another addition to the Far Westfield family with the birth of Catalina in March and we hope to see her helping out on the yard soon along with her brother and sister! Over the summer months our staff have been working amazingly hard to keep the farm looking great and we have added some new features including a new superb all-weather surface for the gallop and we are also working on the installation of a new walker which will be hugely beneficial during the busy winter months. With the flat season now ending and the night’s drawing in it can only mean one thing… breaking season! With our busiest time of year now upon us we would like to update you all on the farm’s progress over the past few months. A big achievement that we are all delighted with is the running of Capla Temptress in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf Gr 1. Jamie bought her at the Goffs Orby yearling sale for just €26,000 in 2016 and she has proven to be a marvellous bargain. This international Grade 1 winner was backed and ridden away right here at Far Westfield Farm before starting her winning career with Marco Botti. She won the Grade 1 Natalma Stakes for Marco and owners, Team Valor, at Woodbine Racetrack in Canada before she headed to the Breeders Cup in Del Mar this autumn. She ran a very respectable race there to finish 7th and will now be returning to the UK to continue her training.  She is definitely a horse to follow and we look forward to supporting this great filly in all her future endeavours, we wish good luck to her and all her connections! We are very lucky that with the great support we receive from our trainers and owners, we are able to have increased our facilities to accommodate more horses. This also means that we have been busy fencing all new paddocks to allow the horses to enjoy some down time with the sun on their backs. The team are in full swing now getting all the yearlings backed and ridden away for the best education and start in life. If you would like to enquire about any of our services, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch. As always, please visit our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for regular pictures and updates. We are looking forward to continued progress on the farm and more busy and successful times ahead.

A Winter Update

Posted on Jan 18, 2016

Firstly our apologies for not keeping our wonderful new site properly updated, with the beginning of 2016 that is all set to change. As any of you who know us will attest it has certainly been a busy few months here at the farm. This is always notoriously our busy period, we have had somewhere close to 100 horses come through the farm already this winter. We have been overwhelmed by the continued support of our existing clients and thrilled to welcome so many new ones. There are exciting times ahead for the farm with our first draft of Breeze-Up horses being prepared for the sales. Roz will be running the consignment as Jamie will obviously be busy at the sales buying for his clients, looking for another Hero Look Gr.II. Roz plans to consign horses to both Tattersalls and Doncaster this spring, so feel free to contact her about them at any time at roz@jamielloyd.com.   There have been a steady flow of winners through the winter, too many to recap here but one highlight was farm graduate Rasikh winning at the international festival in Dohar for Marco Botti and Khalifa M AlAttiya  of Al Shaqaab racing. The 3yo son of Thewayyouare was ridden by Frankie Dettori and was purchased by Jamie at Doncaster for just 14k.
